Last night we were invited to the Elton John concert to celebrate Mark' s B-day. We had a great time, went in a limo and had dinner at The House of Blues. It was a lot of fun. I came to realize that though I am very familiar with most Elton John songs my familiarity turned out to be extremely limited. Elton begins to sing and I am ready to belt out the lyrics and I found myself only knowing a few lines of each song.
Me, singing at the top of my lungs: "Good Bye Yellow Brick Road".... where the... ducks of ..sobriety roll. You can't write ..a word with your pen, mouse....that is not how the song goes, obviously, but it is where my mind went when I realized I did not know any of the lyrics. Or "Sure Plays A Mean Pinball"...then nothing. I did not know any other words to that whole song but let me tell you, I owned that one line! The Reynold's, McCoy's and Chelette's should appreciate this..reminiscent of "The Boys Are Back in Town..."
People watching should be a sport. I would medal at every event. We had just as much fun watching the crowd at this concert. In front of us was a homeboy from East LA decked out in his Dodger garb, hat backwards singing every word of every song while dancing and occasionally throwing out the gang signs in tune to the music. Next to us was a couple in their 60's. The husband sat the whole time with his fingers in his ears 2 seats away from his wife who was wearing a black belt with silver studs that read Crocodile Rock, a white wife beater and tight jeans. Next to her a young kid with spiked hair who looked like he thought Panic At The Disco was supposed to be playing. The majority of the crowd looked like school teachers ( think I even saw one in a holiday cardigan sweater), librarians and grandparents. I guess considering Elton has been playing in the U.S . for 38 years, his crowd is very diverse.
It was an absolute blast and I think the quote of the night goes to my husband when he said "Elton was great but he needs more cow bell"...brilliant.
definitely more cow bell!!!!!
